Snakes help soothe the joints at spa
Hold the Dead Sea salts and tea-tree oil. An Israeli health and beauty spa has introduced a new treatment to its menu -- snake massage. For 300 shekels ($70), clients at Ada Barak's spa in northern Israel can add a wild twist to their treatment by having six non-venomous but very lively serpents slither and hiss a path across their aching muscles and stiff joints. "I'm actually afraid of snakes, but the therapeutic effects are really good," customer Liz Cohen told Reuters Television as Barak let the snakes loose on her body. Barak uses California and Florida king snakes, corn snakes and milk snakes in her treatments, which she said were inspired by her belief that once people get over any initial misgivings, they find physical contact with the creatures to be soothing

Huge python makes a meal of 11 guard dogs
Guard dogs protecting a fruit orchard in Malaysia have met their match -- a 7.1-metre-long (23-ft-long) python that swallowed at least 11 hounds before it was finally discovered by villagers. "I was shocked to see such a huge python," orchard-keeper Ali Yusof told the New Straits Times in an article published beneath a picture of the captured snake, which was almost long enough to span the width of a tennis court and as thick as a tree trunk. Villagers did not harm the snake, which was tied to a tree then handed to wildlife officials, the paper said on Friday.

Brazilian pries grandson from anaconda death grip Fri Feb 9, 1:58 PM ET A 66-year-old Brazilian man wrestled with a 15-foot (5-metre) anaconda for nearly half an hour to free his grandson from the snake's crushing death grip, local media reported on Friday.Matheus Pereira de Araujo, 8, would likely be dead inside the belly of the 80 pound (35 kg) anaconda if his grandfather had not heard his screams for help, zoologists said.Anacondas, the biggest snakes in the world, live in swamps and rivers. They kill prey by asphyxiation or drowning.When the snake struck Araujo, who lives in the world's third largest metropolis of Sao Paulo, he was playing with a cousin on Wednesday in a creek bed on his grandfather's farm 310 miles (500 km) from the city in a town called Cosmorama."It was very fast. I didn't have time to do anything," the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper quoted Araujo as saying. Woman fatally bitten by snake in church Wed Nov 8, 12:54 AM ET A woman who was bitten by a snake at a church that neighbors say practices serpent handling died of her wounds hours later, a newspaper reported.Linda Long, 48, was bitten Sunday at East London Holiness Church, where neighbors said the reptiles are handled as part of religious services, The Lexington Herald-Leader reported Tuesday.Long died at University of Kentucky Medical Center about four hours after being bitten, authorities told the newspaper."She said she was bitten by a snake at her church," said Lt. Ed Sizemore of the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.Handling reptiles as part of religious services is illegal in Kentucky. Snake handling is a misdemeanor and punishable by a $50 to $100 fine.Police said they had not received any reports of snake handling at the church.Snake handling is based on a passage in the Bible that says a sign of a true believer is the power to "take up serpents" without being harmed.Church officials could not be reached for comment.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061108/ap_on_re_us/church_snakebite

A couple of young men, Jason Faughn and Brian McCormick, were stopped on the road and it caught my attention. When I walked up to them I noticed they were looking at a snake fight. They had been watching the fight for close to an hour when I arrived. I had always heard that a king snake would kill a copperhead, but I had never actually seen it happen. I immediately went home and got my digital camera. When I returned the snakes were still fighting, and in the fight the king snake had apparently broken the lower jaw of the copperhead. I watched the fight for another 30 minutes to an hour, and during that time the king snake began eating the copperhead, head first. It was getting dark and I didn't want anyone to run over the snakes, so I scooped them off to the side of the road. I figured if the king snake would kill one copperhead, it would probably kill another copperhead at a later date.” Dwayne Vinson

Mysterious Creature Washed Up on Beach
From www.museumofhoaxes.com... Mysterious Creature Washed Up on Beach Status: Misidentified I received links to two different pages featuring a series of pictures showing what is described as a 'monster' and an 'unknown creature'.
On one of the sites, this description is given: This creature was found by Russian soldiers on Sakhalin shoreline. Sakhalin area is situated near to Japan, it’s the most eastern part of Russia, almost 5000 miles to East from Moscow (Russia is huge). People don’t know who is it. According to the bones and teeth – it is not a fish. According to its skeleton - it’s not a crocodile or alligator. It has a skin with hair or fur. It has been said that it was taken by Russian special services for in-depth studies, and we are lucky that people who encountered it first made those photos before it was brought away.
Ignoring the unverified description, I'm fairly sure it's a beluga whale.
A site describes them as: "... a small white whale measuring 9 to 15 feet in length (Seems about right, sizewise). Belugas are found throughout the Arctic Ocean and in a few other isolated populations. Belugas were once heavily hunted for their meat, hide (for leather) and oil.
